Leeds United Break 19 Year Old Transfer Record On Spanish International Rodrigo Moreno
Updated: Sep 1, 2020
Leeds have confirmed the club-record signing of striker Rodrigo Moreno from Valencia on a contract to 2024.
Club Sporting Director Victor Orta moved quickly to progress the deal since negotiations began seemingly a fortnight ago.
The front third has been an area for concern for Leeds fans with often maligned forward Patrick Bamford the whites only natural #9 after Jean Kevin Augustin left the club after an unsuccessful loan stint, picking up an injury which contentiously saw Leeds terminate his loan and go against the agreement they had with parent club AS Monaco to pay upwards of €20 million if Leeds were to get promoted to the Premier League, which they went on to do in comfortable fashion. This is still an issue that does not seem to be resolved between the two clubs.
Rodrigo's departure from Spanish giant Valencia seemed mutually beneficial for all parties involved. The "Los Ches" are in a state of disarray behind the scenes where financial issues are crippling the club due to not qualifying for this years UEFA Champions League. As a result of this the club are having to sell off some of their prized possessions. On the other end of the spectrum, having just joined the Premier League, Leeds only have a wage bill of what you expect of a challenging championship team, giving owner Andrea Radrizzani plenty of room to manoeuvre in the transfer window.
